How often ITB crosses

ITB has crossed its 200-day average 9.7 times a year on average since Feb 21, 2007, and 74% of those crosses came within 14 days of the previous one. Waiting for three closes on the new side cuts that to 3.3 a year.

On a dividend-adjusted price series, 54 of ITB's 209 200-day cross dates (26%) would fall on a different day or not at all. This page uses unadjusted closes, the series a broker chart shows, so every date here can be checked against one.

Questions

What does "above its 200-day moving average" mean?

The 200-day moving average is the mean of ITB's last 200 daily closes. ITB is above it when the day's close is higher than that mean, below when lower. A close exactly on the line keeps the side it had.

When does this ITB page update?

After every US market close, once the day's official close is final (about 6:30 pm New York time). The dateline at the top names the last close it reflects.

What is the "confirmed on 3 closes" column?

The confirmed variant changes side only after three consecutive closes on the new side, and its cross date is the third close. For ITB it has crossed the 200-day 3.3 times a year on average, against 9.7 for the raw rule.

Which prices are used?

Unadjusted daily closes: split-adjusted, not dividend-adjusted, the prices a broker chart shows. Dividend-adjusted series put many cross dates on different days; the method page explains the choice.
