An email the evening a fund crosses its average

Read on the official close, sent once a day, naming the rule, the date and this year's cross count. Pick the funds you follow; most people want two or three.

Hold Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) to pick several. Most people want two or three.

The 200-day rule unless you tick others. One email on the evenings a fund on your list crosses, never more. A link in every email stops them.

What arrives

One email per evening at most, listing every cross on your list at that day's close: "SCHD closed below its 200-day moving average. Crosses this year: 4, this one 12 days after the previous." Each line links to the fund's page, where every cross is dated. Nothing is sent on days without a cross.

What the rules are

The close against the simple average of its last 50, 100 or 200 closes. A fund is above when the close is higher, below when lower; a close exactly on the line keeps its side. The confirmed option waits for three closes on the new side before it counts a cross, which cuts the median fund's 200-day alerts from about eight a year to about three.

What is not promised

Quiet. The median fund crosses its 200-day 8.3 times a year, and two of every three crosses come within two weeks of the previous one. Every alert prints how many days it has been since the last cross, so the chop is visible. The confirmed option, at about three crosses a year on the 200-day, is the calm one.

Market data, not advice. The same emails go to everyone on a list; nothing is personalised. Confirm by clicking the link in the first email, and every email after it carries a one-click stop link. The method page has every definition.
